Multiplicity: Image-Object And Neo-Materialism

The concept of multiplicity challenges the idea of a single, fixed form in the creation and consumption of art and fashion. In today’s image-saturated culture, the boundary between digital and physical has collapsed. Images on screens are increasingly understood as material entities, existing in a constant state of flux between virtual and physical forms.

In fashion, this shift is especially evident. Garments are no longer simply worn—they are captured, filtered, reimagined, and endlessly shared online. As a result, the image of the garment often holds more power than the object itself. This ongoing process of digital circulation and re-contextualization redefines authorship, materiality, and meaning, positioning the fashion image at the core of a neo-materialist aesthetic.
